I always forget how magical London gets in December. Yes, Oxford Street gets lit up too early and I don’t care for red cups, but everyone gets a little more enthusiastic; there’s a sense of giddiness on the streets and in the trains; glitter on faces and sequins, spangles everywhere in the evenings. As the days get shorter the doorways and windows light up and reflect off wet pavements and the rhythms wind down a little. Meanwhile, if you look carefully, nature’s joining in - this hellebore is among dozens happily waking up for the season 50 paces from Victoria Station.
